Four teams took part in the ongoing 5-a-side football tournament on Sunday night at Darius Turf, Diamond Estate, Amuwo Odofin.
The first game of the night was between Onyi Best, the defending champions, and Gbadun FC.

It was a five-goal thriller, with both teams creating lots of chances.
The defending champions took the lead with two quick goals after Mera Okorozie had scored a long-range strike for Gbadun FC.
Onyi Best scored the third goal in the second half to give their side a two-goal cushion, and afterward, Gbadun Best pulled one back before full time.

Onyi Best gained all three points.
Okoye Martins, the two-goal scorer, said, “It was not an easy one for us. In the first half we conceded, but we had to come in and play our best game and the goals came.
“I scored the equalizing goal and the next goal, while our captain scored the third, so we won the game. It’s all thanks to our team, the supporters, and every official. Having won this one, we will go back and come in with full energy. We are not looking down on any team. We will come and give it our best and we expect a positive result next week.”
Onyi Best’s UgochukwuOkonkwo said, “It was an entertaining game. They scored first, but that was not the end of the game. We had to equalize, we had to score two, and score three, and the match ended. We are so happy for the next game.”

Mera Okorozie, a player of Gbadun Fc, whose goal is to become the highest goal scorer of the tournament, said, “I scored the first goal of the match and I feel so good. The competition is a good competition, and it’s a way for those of us that are playing football to show our skills, build our game and let people get to know us more.”
In response to Gbadun FC’s defeat, he said, “We played individual football; everybody wanted to play and show off. By the time you bring that type of mentality to a team game, you’ve already lost.”
The second game between Juventus FC and Darius FC commenced about 10 minutes after the first game.

In the first half, Juventus FC defied precedent by scoring two goals in 60 seconds. It was an all-around dominant display by Juventus FC as they defeated Darius FC 4-2.
Comrade Juventus Uche Okaka, captain of Juventus FC, said, “It’s a very nice tournament. We performed poorly today, even though we won 4-2. We are optimistic that in the next game we will perform better and we are hopeful the tournament is ours. In terms of conceding goals, we missed many chances. It was supposed to be 4-0 or 5-0. We have a team that shouldn’t concede any goals at all. I’m surprised we conceded.”

Darius FC player Elvis Fordy said, “It was an interesting game. We had fun playing, and that’s the most important thing, but then, maybe because we were not prepared, we lost, but I think we enjoyed ourselves. It was a good game. We will have time to train, to strategize on our tactics, and I’m sure our second game will be better.”
The next game will be played at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 27.
