Christians in Amuwo Odofin have described the 2022 Easter holiday as an unusual one due to the high cost of food stuffs and other necessities.
Although the Easter holiday is not as big as the Christmas, it is also acknowledged and celebrated amongst Christians.
Easter celebration is about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The preparation of the Easter came with a complaint, which is the persistent increase in the price of commodities.
When Amuwo News visited Festival Mall along Festac Link Road, Amuwo Odofin, on Thursday evening, residents were not shopping as much as they normally do.
It was discovered that few people were at the mall to watch movies and play games, but most were there to eat with friends.
Our correspondent spoke to Eke Austin, a resident of Festac Town who said the Easter holiday is like every other day, and he believes it is all about Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.
According to Eke, he is more interested in making more money during this festive season than celebrating Easter as he complained about the situation in the country.
The graduate of Landmark University said if he had to celebrate Easter, it would be in church.
Chiama Obudu, a resident, is preparing for the Easter holidays differently. She said she would be shopping for the most essential items (food and drinks) this festive season.
She also stated that she does not have enough money to celebrate like she normally would and blamed it on the state of the country’s economy.
According to Obudu, the Easter celebration should be about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Joseph Ayodeji stated that the inflation in the country is unbearable and it is hard to celebrate with friends and family.
According to him, “This Easter is a season for rest and self-reflection. He expressed his frustration about the hike in prices of commodities and described the Easter holiday as being like every other day.”
