Motorists in Amuwo Odofin area have expressed dissatisfaction with the daily gridlock at apple junction along Festac link road
“The congestion at apple junction makes commuters susceptible to accidents. I hope the government looks into it soon” Mr. James Okubido a motorist told Amuwo News.
It was observed that the traffic lights are functional and there are about 5 officers of Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) at the junction daily, yet it has been a challenge managing traffic in the area.
Mr. Omolaja Ige, who is an officer of LASTMA, blamed the traffic jam on motorists for lack of indiscipline and impatience. He further accused motorists of violating traffic rules.
In his words “The problem happens during the peak period and this junction is a high-pressure area, motorists use this junction to embark on different routes.”
“Motorists only want to obey the green lights, they don’t stop when they are expected to and hence why we have to apprehend some of them which cause even more traffic. We are so indiscipline and not patient enough to obey traffic rules. Nigerian motorists need to be law-abiding citizens” he told Amuwo News.
It was also observed that members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) were at the junction stopping trucks to collect taxes which also disrupts the flow of traffic daily.
“They cannot be on our roads, the government should send them back to the garages. Isn’t that where they should be? Please send them away” Mr. Innocent lamented.
Our correspondent contacted the press secretary of Amuwo Odofin local government area, who is yet to respond to questions at the time of filing this report.
I really think the Government and The Local Government most especially should look into an everlasting solution of that Apple Junction. I have heard several experience on that same route and it’s really annoying how it’s been handled.
Oga so government go dey monitor traffic again for this Nigeria way we dey so. There are better things to pay attention to
