Father’s Day: CMO members urge young men to embrace fatherhood

In commemoration of Father’s Day, members of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Amuwo Odofin, have urged young men in the community to embrace the responsibility of Fatherhood.

The members expressed their thoughts at the Church’s Fathers Day event held in the community.

Mr. Mc Donald Aku, a member of the Church and CMO member, said he was elated to see that Fathers are being celebrated in a world he believes women are most celebrated.

“Today is a special day for all of us. For me, it’s a unique day and we want to make it memorable. It means so much that we have taken one day out of the whole year to celebrate Fathers. Men who do a lot, Men who take care of the women, me who take care of the children, themselves, in-laws, and every other person that is related to the family.

“Taking one day out of 365 days to celebrate ourselves, it’s a special one and it calls for a huge celebration.”

Mr. Aku who is the Secretary of the organising Committee of the programme implored single men to be patient and ensure they find the right partner.

“Take your time because when you come in it’s a huge responsibility and it’s a responsibility that everyone that has set their minds to it can carry.”

For Mr. Ugokwe Goodhope, a church member and a trader with two kids, being a father is beyond having biological children. He believes Fatherhood is about leadership and looking out for the extended family, and members of the community.

According to him, “we Fathers overburden ourselves so much that we don’t have time to celebrate ourselves, that’s why I’m happy to be a Father.”

Mr. Goodhope urged young men to embrace Fatherhood as he believes it is a gift from God.

Mr. Franklin Eguaba, staff of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Lagos and a father of five kids, believes Fatherhood is an experience every young man should want to have when they become of age.

While noting that the responsibility is challenging, he said it’s a worthy responsibility.

Eguaba described the role of a Father by saying, “basically the role of a Father is to secure your family, to love your wife as much as possible, to love and cherish your kids, and to groom them to the best of your ability within your financial responsibility and to also see that your children reckon as one of the best among the children you might want to aspire to get in the community.”

He implored young men to be courageous and take on the responsibility of Fatherhood.

“Fatherhood is an experience young men should not be running away from because most young men look at marriages as a hurdle they cannot trust, they look at marriages as a challenge they cannot accomplish. It is a question of perseverance and enthusiasm, when you have the perseverance and you believe in God, you will be able to succumb to all challenges.”
